13 September 2018 – Hon. Mereseini Vuniwaqa, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation of the Republic of Fiji paid a courtesy call on Dr. Kyung-Hee Chung, Vice President of the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA)located in the administrative capital of Korea, Sejong City.

During the call, Hon. Vuniwaqa and Dr. Chung shared views on various policies in relation to the welfare of elderly citizens in Korea, namely the pension and insurance scheme, local government funded homes and day-care centers, and the advisory role of KIHASA in this endeavour. Dr. Chung also presented on some of the challenges faced by the rapidly aging population in Korea and the policies, laws, schemes and incentives provided by Korea in response to this problem.

Hon. Minister was accompanied by Dr. Josefa Koroivueta, Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation and two other delegates from the Ministry. The delegation’s scoping exercise was facilitated by the Fiji Mission in Seoul.
