On 23 August 2017, H.E. Ambassador Filimone Kau attended the awards ceremony of the 2017 2nd Semester Scholarship Award Presentation of the Woojung Education and Culture Foundation” held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in Seoul.
The ceremony was attended by more than one hundred seventy (170) people including Dr. Lee Joong-Keun, Chairman of the Woojung Education and Culture Foundation and also the Booyoung Group, Hon. Han Seung-soo, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea and President of the 56th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA) and members of the diplomatic corps in Seoul.
The Ambassador Kau delivered congratulatory remarks at the ceremony extending his warm congratulations to the awardees selected from a pool of competitive applicants in a competitive process. He also extended his gratitude to the Chairman and staff of the Booyoung Group for their leadership and vision in the establishment of a scholarship that assisted foreign students studying in Korea universities with a partial monthly stipend.
“Woojung Foundation actively puts into practice Korea’s vision of ‘giving back’ as the country continues its upward growth from the ruins of war and poverty. At country to country level, we hope that all the recipients today will be bearer of the torch of peace and friendship between the Republic of Korea and their individual countries,” he said.
The Foundation presented a total of four hundred (400) million won in scholarships to one hundred four (104) international students from twenty two (22) countries. Four (4) Fijian students namely, Ratu Jone Parkes Savou, Sunia Loga, Frederick Hiroshi Kado and Mesake Navunawa were extended scholarships. The latter two awardees are new recipients pursuing mechanical engineering at Mokpo National University and Korea Maritime and Ocean University respectively.
