On July 13, H.E. Ambassador Filimone Kau, attended the inaugural Heads of Missions reception hosted by the new Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Honorable Kyung-hwa Kang, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government Complex in Seoul.
The reception was attended by the Heads of Missions and members of the diplomatic corps of some one hundred and twenty (120) Missions and around twenty (20) senior officials from the Ministry, including H.E Chan-woo Kim, the Ambassador for Climate Change of the Republic of Korea.
During the reception, Ambassador Kau had an opportunity to congratulate the Hon. Minister on her new appointment in Office as well as inform her of Fiji’s imminent role as President of the 23rd Session of the Conference of Parties (COP 23) to the United Nations Framework on the Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to be held in November 2017.
Hon. Minister Kang was appointed to office on 18 June 2017 by President Moon Jae In is South Korea’s first Foreign Minister and has served in various capacities as Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights and Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs before becoming a senior policy adviser to Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres this year.
Hon. Minister Kang served at Korea’s foreign ministry for years before joining the UN.
