On 22 February, 2017, H.E Filimone Kau attended the graduation ceremony of the Korea Ocean and Maritime University together with his wife, Madam Jiutajiu Selai Kau, in support of Fiji student Mr. Mohammed Asid Zullah. Mr. Zullah who hails from Tavua and is an alumni of Tavua College, graduated with a Ph.D degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Graduate School of Korea Maritime and Ocean University (KMOU) in Busan.
The University awarded 1116 degrees to students including 932 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
“I’m delighted and very happy today and this day has become more memorable with the presence of H.E Ambassador Kau as special guest of honor. This is a historic moment for me as I’m the first Fijian to receive a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from KMOU. I to be a role model and example to Fijian students back home,” said Mr. Zullah.
In recent years, Fiji has seen many development projects with the Government of Korea.
Fiji’s representative to Korea Ambassador Filimone Kau attended the graduation and congratulated Mr Zullah on his achievement and added that Fiji will immensely benefit from qualified professionals in the science and technology field. “Your educational achievement and work experience in Korea would be would be an asset to Fiji’s ship building sector in Fiji,” he said.
